I had one of these a long time ago with a similar problem. A triple input 
NAND chip was zapped. After replacing it, the OB-1 was fine.  So your 
friend's OB-1 probably has a bad chip too. Finding the bad one will require 
the schematics and some troubleshooting.  I don't have the schemos anymore 
but I'm sure they're posted somewhere on the web.
