[sdiy] new projects in the works!

YES, I am FINALLY settling into my new domicile and OF COURSE the very 1st
thing I setup is my workbench ;-)
in the time since my last progress report I have accomplished nothing
physically but have had a couple brainstorms for future synth mania. I have
also aquired some beautifull chassis' with which to house these brainstorms.
yeah yeah, I know, get to the point already.... blah!
I have decided it is time to rebuild my modular website which was so rudely
deleted by those money grubbing free hosts. now that I pay for hosting
anyway, what the hell. soon pics and schematics online. now, just my plain
text teasers.

ok good stuff in the works:

Voltage Controlled Lag Processor.
Variable Length Gate Sequencer.
the "Cubist Unit" - all you need to know for now, hehehehe...
4 Stage Gate Delay. just some daisychained 555s.
my own take on the Analog Shift Register. and NO, I will not use relays ;-)

Since I have detected some interest in the Synthacon VCF I will soon be
offering up copies of my dual Steiner PCB. it's small, cheap, and sounds
great! keep your eye out for it!

one of my more enlightened moments brought me the realization that much more
of what I like to do with modular synths will be possible by breaking the
component parts of things like sequencers down into individual modules. yes
I AM Capt. Ahab, but the idea is like this. Start with a simple (or not so
simple) gate sequencer, then run those Gates into a bank of lag generators,
then run the lag generators into a CV mixer, and that into a quantizer to
make the output actually be usefull in a musical sense. in between all that
frenzied patching there are numerous things that can be inserted into the
flow like analog shift registers, VCAs, Logic functions, and comparators. ok
yeah maybe I have been inspired by that ancient thing known as the analog
computer, or maybe I just listen to too much Kraftwerk! only God and Bill
Gates know for sure.
take the LFO for instance, it goes up, it goes down, it goes up, it goes
down - YAY! fun...
MIDI to CV. it is promising, but left to it's own devices kinda defeats the
point of modular composition in my twisted mind.
what if it was used only to steer the chaos this way and that by varying
degrees? would the world collapse in madness? nope too late ;-)
if you are still with me here then you have an idea of what I mean. and what
I intent to do. Modular is boring, many of you know this! it is why really
smart people like Synthesis technology and Blacet are making some wacky-ass
stuff lately. GOOD JOB GUYS!!!! when the economy gets better and I am having
a steady income you will hear me barking outside for a module or 2! i'm sure
they're thrilled ;-)
of course these comercial dudes ain't the only innovators. you guys on this
list have been knocking my sox off lately with some great stuff! keep it up
peeps!
now what was I blathering about?

oh yeah, I am taking a new direction in my design "philosophy" or lack
thereof. along the way I may try to barter or even sell some trinkets. in
order for me to keep up my hobby it needs to start paying for itself a
little, so please don't murder me for hawking a PCB here and there. I'm not
interested in trying to milk the people who have so generously tolerated my
stupid questions all these years. but if I can save you a little hard work
for a modest price please don't be offended if I try.

~M
