[sdiy] A really strange find...

I have been helping my parents clean out their home as they are
preparing to move into a retirement home up in Seatle.

My dad used to repair organs as a hobby/part time business. One of
the things I found today in a heap to be thrown away is a HMR
"Strobetune 220". My Dad said it didn't work. I figured at the worst,
I had a stobe wheel so I could build my own electronics around it. I
opened it up...man, what a KLUGE, I can't believe a company would sell
something like this. One of the circuits is actually built on perf
board. The motor is hot glued to a circuit card. Stuff like that.

But, when I tried it out, it seems to work OK, although, with the
way it was built, I would not be surprised that there is some
intermittent problem.

Still, it is a stobe tuner. Does anybody know anything about
these...are they total crap? (It sure looks like a piece of crap!).
