[sdiy] Paia Vocoder clarifier mod toggle?

I hate that photo since it was the very first thing I ever did on proto type
board. I'm almost embarrassed to see it these days. But, the bottom line
is that you will not want to switch back and forth. The Scott Lee
modification does somewhat improve the frequency response and helps with
clarity. My PAiA vocoder produces quite understandable vocoding.

I built it stock first, then installed the mod and compared. If you
installed such a switch, it would always be in the modified position. I
think I want to go back to mine and install level controls for each of the 8
bands for more precise control.

However, similar control can be gained by simply using a graphic EQ of 15
bands or more between the modulating source (microphone) and input to the
vocoder. This allows you to even out the action in the bands, and to roll
of the low end of the mic which is essential to keep the mud out of your
sound. Let the synth supply all the bottom end.

Subject: [sdiy] Paia Vocoder clarifier mod toggle?

I just finished putting together a PAiA vocoder and I think it sounds pretty
rad...maybe the frequency response is skewed but sometimes that kind of
stuff just gives it character...however, added clarity would be nice. I'm
looking at the mod instructions http://www.paia.com/vocodmod.htm
and I don't really see how I could add the mod as a feature that could be
bypassed by a switch. Is there such a thing as a single throw 16 pole
switch? Or maybe I'm overlooking a more practical solution?

Thanks
Steve
