[sdiy] beginner question

hi all, i'm pretty much a noob when it comes to diy stuff.
i've made some simple things, a distortion pedal from the craig anderton 
book, etc. i'm really good at soldering, and can read schematics a little.
but i'm eager to go further. my real goal is starting up a small modular.

my question is this:
if i started on a couple of MOTM modules, do you think that would give me 
enuf experience to try and tackle some of the oakleysound modules?

thanks in advance for any thoughts, and sorry if this has been done before, 
i just stumbled into this list and i'm hoping to get a start on more synth 
related stuff soon!
