There's a man who knows his shakers.

The problem was not enough clearance between the 
voice coil drive and the DC field circuits.
I just happen to be the random b*stard using it 
when it ate through the insulation. The red coil being 
held up by the coffee cup is a reverse wound
degaussing coil that balances out the stray 
DC magnetic field. 

The coffee cup and coin were just for photos. I 
didn't leave them inside last time I worked on 
it. Honest. No really, I didn't. Honest.  :)

I do realize that for some of the people here, 
making sparks at work could mean taking 
out a big chunk of the power grid.
