Hi Peter,
I think the PE-1000 used a simple trimpot-tuned thyristor
(N13T?) oscillator for each key. You might be able to use a quad or hex
Schmitt trigger CMOS chip but syncing between oscillators on the same
chip might occur. My inclination would be to use a separate CMOS 555
timer (TLC555 or LMC555 or TS555) for each key - the temperature
stability is good and you might be able to use pin 5 for a "global tune"
function. Dual CMOS TLC556 might work, but again you will have to make
sure that osc syncing doesn't occur.
