I'm glad to see that my problem which I didn't
consider a great DIY subject leads to all these
interesting answers - thank you.

This is correct, and the switch-like object in the
OBMx does display 115 and 230...

...so with regards to this comment, even if my power
socket gives me five additional volts, the voltage
SHOULD not be the problem.
I will now try using a 250mA fuse instead of the
existing 500mA since several of you have suggested
this. I did not try it in the first place only because
the electrician I showed the OB to said it wouldn't be
necessary, but hopefully he's wrong.
