ladies and gentlemen,

it is with great pleasure that i can make the following
announcement:

the dutch Centre for Electronic Music (CEM)
presents a new record label: Vinalogica

a special project from a special electronic music studio

The Amsterdam-based CEM studio is the oldest electronic music studio in the
Netherlands. Started in 1956 by electronics-maker Philips, the studio was a
part of many institutions, schools and universities. The CEM played its part
in the development of the Dutch electronic music scene, and many
international guests visited and composed there.

Over the years the studio kept most of its special equipment: signal
generators, modular synthesizer systems and signal processors, and of course
tape recorders. CEM's Jouke Schouwstra and Ruud Lekx (also known as
electro-producer Rude 66) wondered how the 'techno-generation', used to much
more sophisticated modern equipment and working with computers, would
interact with the vintage machinery. Can the musical ideas of today be
realized with yesteryear's soundmakers?

To find out, we set up a record label. Vinalogica invites producers who we
feel are in some way in touch with what the studio represents, and explore
the boundaries of electronic dance music. They can use the analogue studio
to compose enough material for a 12" EP, using as many vintage techniques as
they like. The results will be released on vinyl, and eventually on a
compilation cd.

The first two releases, available from november 18th, are by dntel from LA
and Legowelt from the Hague in Holland. These represent two of the
approaches possible in the studio: dntel use the electronics as a basis for
a guitar and vocals, and legowelt's electro-italo disco sounds remarkably
different when made with the arp 2500. On the website of the label,
www.cemstudio.com are sound clips from all tracks. The vinyl quality is
impressive thanks to the help of the Record Industry pressing plant in
Haarlem, Holland..
