I have seen similar pots with have an opening at their back, however the
shaft's back end is flush with the casing. 
I already had this idea of somehow making a reverse log pot from one of
those. Something like super-glueing an extra shaft at the back side. I
guess the problem will be to prevent an excentric or tilted position of
the additional shaft.
