Yo list,

Jim's vocal filter is a pretty nifty gadget. It got me
to thinking. I've been interested in the human voice
for a while. Ever wonder why voice synthesizers sound
so, well, fake? I mean, we can make a pretty
convincing violin. But not vioces. Then I got to
thinking about the wide range of human vioces a person
can distinguish. Now I know alot of it is inflection,
accent, etc. But even then, the range is remarkable.
Especially whem you concider the system generating the
voices (minus the wetware) is simple and well (?)
understood. It seems like there is something missing
in our efforts to synthesize a vioce. THe closest I've
heard is Isao Tomita. His vioces om Bermuda Triangle
and Pictures are great. But still my ear can tell the
difference. Maybe my ears are too good; a few more
birthdays may fix that ;-)

So like, what would it take to make a controller for
doing vioces? I'm thinking a cross between the
multi-segment envelope generator and a sequencer.

I'll start building an Arc to weather the flood of
comments...lets see: 2 VCOs, 2 VCAs, 2 ADSRs....
