If they're those buttons that are made of a cast rubber sheet with carbon
buttons that hit traces on a circuit board to make contact, I think the
wisdom on the list was to clean the carbon button and circuit board with a
pencil eraser.
If they're tact switches, replace them. They're not too uncommon, and a
decent catalog will have dozens of choices. If you have a choice, get ones
that are rated for more contact cycles in their lifetime.
