[sdiy] SSM2018T as a VC panner

Hi John,

I haven't used one as a panner yet, but they work very nicely as a VCA - very clean sound, and minimal external components. They are log response which is usually what you want. The only slight annoyance is that they are not temperature compensated, so if you want really accurate control you should add a tempco resistor in the opamp input stage - mail me offlist if you want more details about this.

Actually I'm also planning to build a VCP with one, but I haven't got as far as breadboarding yet. I assume it will work just fine.

One point to note is that in a VCP application there seems no advantage in using the more expensive trimmed verson since (according to the datasheet) external trimming is still required with the "T" model to ensure the best THD and control feedthrough performance. So just buy the straight "SSM2018" for a VCP. In the UK at least, they are very much cheaper.

Seb
