Keep in mind that USB is a fairly lopsided protocol.  The end devices can be
pretty simple, but the host side is fairly substantial.  Knowing how all of
the different classes peripherals want to be spoken to, and how to hook them
into the while driver model is where most of the work is.

I've found that my old MQX-32 card had better timing than the USB-MIDI box I
use with my laptop.  YMMV.

Fibre Channel -> MIDI/CV, anyone?
