The app note says it can drive 300 mA peak. I don't believe a CA3080 can do 
that.

Ah, so you would connect an integrating cap at the "external frequency 
compensation" pin, pin1.  I imagine you could also use the device as a 3080 
by taking the output current from pin 1?
