Hi Cynthia...

The manufacturers make these parts in the expectation that we will
buy millions of them. When that does not happen they eventually drop
them. The 3094 is a really OLD chip at this point.

Today they drop products because of greed and stupidity... often NEW
products which really does screw people over.

I think the CA3094 is no big deal... the LM13600/13700 has the same
architecture in a dual...  or try a 3080 and use your own darlington (or better
yet... FET) buffer.

If you are comitted to the layout then your idea of a little header would work.
The CA3080 is available in SMT package and you COULD fit it on a dip header...
