Dear Doug,
You could use just about any medium slew rate op amp as a replacement for a
4558--TL072/82, LF353, 5532, etc. If it's just a matter of using what you have on
hand, the 1458 will work fine. But the 4558 is not a rare chip--Mouser has them
for $0.38 each. An exact replacement will at least give you predictable results.
