Most electronics these days have to meet CE standards (if you want to sell them
in Europe, anyway). One of the things in that spec as to do with ESD
resistance...and I will tell you, it is a very tough spec to meet. The instrument
has to take quite a hit, and still function (while ON and operating). So, once
packaged, one would hope that ESD concerns would not be there.
