Hi,
That's not completely the truth.
Steim is a 'left over' from a project called 'reconstruction',
an opera made by very sophisticated composers and which was
as a prestige project sponsored by the Dutch state.
The whole project had to be a 'guide to modern composing
techniques' and all gear had to be available to others.
After the project, which was a little bit a failure, most
gear went to an other institute, CEM (Center for Electronic
Music), Steim went on as a kind of laboratories for new
developments. Head of Steim became Michael Waisvisz, a
composer who was well aware of the abilities of Midi.
He constructed a Midi Control devise, the 'Hands'
