Technically speaking, 'Just Intonation' refers to using whole number
frequency equivs to all degrees of the scale, as opposed to Equal Temerment,
in which these perfect (bad choice of word here) intervals are intentionally
detuned to fit into our current ethestic of consonance and dissonant
intervals, which has changed over the years. A good example of this is the
tritone (aug 4th) which until pretty recently was determined to be
dissonant, but now widely accepted. I have read stories about how the use
of this specific interval in the baroque period was scorned.
Harry Partch and Lou Harrison were big on Just Intonation, as is LeMonte
Young and Chas Smith.
