That hurts my thumb!!! These tape deck capstan motors are pretty torquey
(hey isn't that a city in Wales?)

I'm fairly sure that the amp isn't running DC thru the transformer...
outputs look symmetric around zero on the scope, power trannys aren't hot,
pretty sure the inputs are AC coupled... OK yeah I haven't actually
*measured* anything, that would be cheating, wouldn't it?

The power amp is made from a pair of Polytone Minibrute PCB's that use the
LM391 power tranny driver chips. Pretty much straight out of the National
app notes for the LM391, running at +/- 40 volts or so.

The deceased transformer was the PS transformer from a solid state Magnatone
combo amp which was gutted by me long ago in favor of a tube head. It had
two black wires for the primary, two red wires for the secondary, measured
at 33 VAC. No center tap, so it was pretty useless to me for a synth PS. I
considered it a worthy martyr to my inverter cause. May it rest in peace.

Best Regards,
