Good suggestion. I think the adapter way is the way to go too, you aren't
worried about frequency response given your stated use. If the adapter breaks,
you can always replace it. But if you try to modify the perfectly working unit
itself, you risk breaking it. And you never know what new use you will think
if in the future.
