Hi Batz!

Could the shift register be there
because it's a stepper motor on the Volume knob?

It could be taking a single pulse and cycling it to the different windings
of the motor somehow using the shift register as a stepper motor driver?
(usually, you can feel the multiple detents in a stepper's windings by
slowly turning the motor shaft and feeling carefully).

On the other hand it could it could be a servo and the shifty register is
part of an unusual servo driver?

Anyway, Stepper Motor Driver - that's what I thought it might be

Best to ya'
