Great story Batz,

Comment:

Yeah. I'd love to do that. But still that's 180 clams you could spend on
something that gives you more bang for your buck. Unless you really really
want to code a synth in DSP then it's probably the way to go.

-->Which begs the point, what was originally conceived as the appropriate
"cost" to the constructor of the simple micro based single channel "voice".
If i remember the original thread the concept was an inexpensive micro based
DCO driving wavebending like VCF/VCA and, again if recall serves, a hybrid
solution was allowable for the wavebending.

If I must work with DSPs these days, I'd be looking for either some
cheap-shit old DSP hardware for nix to mess with or whack a bunch of old
DSP56Ks on a proto-board or something. But life is short and I'm having Oh
so much fun practicing to be a zombie.

-->There is some great synth stuff happening with fixed point ADSP-2181.
However the micro per channel (which favor's small format micro's PIC's,
AVR, AT89C2051's etc) has some intrigue as of course it can be done.
Remembering the adage "just be case one can do a thing, it doesn't
necessarily follow ...."

-->Questions which to my mind are unanswered would be:

-->(1) Expected cost per channel;(2)is it fully digital or a hybrid; (3)
MIDI driven or CV?; (3a) if MIDI does each channel operate as a stand alone
MIDI client or is there a master Unit which "terminates" the MIDI input and
distributes it to "slaves"? (4) is it a "reduced" performance synth or
expected to provide "state of the art" audio.

regards,
p
