That's actually not a bad idea, at least for connecting the various
modules to the back of a patch unit. For actual patching use I think
it would be a pain in the behind though. I've installed a PBX before,
and I wouldn't want to deal with that wiring whenever I want to
repatch something.

It might be possible to use normal Tiny Telephone Patchbays for
synth/audio use and run the audio out of the 50-pin amphenol
connectors some of them use. Just take a 50-pin telco cable and make a
snake out of it with the connector of your choice on the other end.
Just be sure to look up the wiring colors and use the twisted pairs
for each signal. Might run into trouble with crosstalk though, since
I believe pairs are normally floating in relation to ground in a
telecom setting, I'd have to look it up and make sure as it's been a
while but I'm sure somebody else here knows the deal.
