Well, I've been using BNC connectors for my tube synth, and 
I really like them, very high quality and reliability. They 
are cheap and plentiful on Ebay, although I'm able to meet 
my own needs with salvage parts alone.

RCA connectors are crap as far as I'm concerned, although 
they probably wouldn't be any worse than 3.5mm connectors.
