you may take a look into:
Bourns PTD90/PTR90 (knurled 6mm shaft)
Alps RK097 (D-flat 6mm shaft)
Vishay-Spectrol 180 family (all kinds of knobs)
they all have small plastic body, only slightly bigger than
the bushing. 9x12mm I guess and depth of something like 8mm.
You should be able to find some of them in Mouser and Farnell
at least.
