Y-ellow Y'all.
(And they think I deviate from the core topic.)

Actually Australia uses 50Hz. It's impossible to get the rats to turn the
wheels any faster. They're Australian rats after all. They couldn't be
bothered. And every now and then the engineers have to run the wheels while
the RATs take a smoko break. Mainly because they get the rats from the
tobacco industry's ongoing research which prove not only dose cigarettes
not cause cancer but it saves electricity costs.

None of that nuclear shit here. People think we burn coal to produce
electricity. That's not a smoke stack, that's a giant camel plain.

And as for time zones. When Australia changes to/from daylight saving
there's a 3 or 4 week period where there are 7 different time zones. And
they're all shifting against each other before they settle. The West Shifts
3 hours compared to the east. But the caveat is that no matter when you
call Adelaide, we're always 30 minutes ahead. We'd tell you what the lotto
numbers are going to be but we're all complete bastards. You know that
crash at that air show the other day? We could have warned someone but we
thought it looked cool. Everyone else in the world celebrated the turn of
the century except us. We don't like re-runs.

I'll never be ahead of my time. But I can be ahead of yours. If I could be
bothered.

Oh yeah. Before I forget why I crawled out from under my rock. I thought
Japan was 60hz as well? I always thought the former soviet union was 60
too. At the back of a lot of buildings in Australia, you use to be able to
observe what we use to refer to as "Perpetual Motion Machines." Basically a
very large electric motor with a belt driving a very large generator.
(Alternator actually.) It looked for all the world like this thing was
generating it's own power to run it self. And this is Adelaide where you'd
expect to find things like that. But anyway, the reason was that this is
the simplest and most efficient method of converting 50hz to 60 on a
localized but large scale. The pulleys were geared up accordingly. Whenever
you saw one of these you knew there was an IBM mainframe near by.

Be absolutely Icebox.
