Well, there was a problem, at least initially, to run motors on 60 or even
50 Hz. That's why most railways in Europe settled on 16 2/3 Hz. If you
travelled by train in the sixties, or earlier, you might remember the cozy
16 2/3 Hz flicker of the light bulbs.
