Edison was the DC guy. George Westinghouse was the AC guy. Borrowed the idea
from Tesla.
60 Hz corresponds with 3600 rpm. Generators turn at some sub-multiple of
3600 rpm, in the USA, depending on the number of poles.
50 Hz corresponds with 3000 rpm. Rest of World.
There were industrial areas of Los Angeles where power was distributed at 25
Hz.
Some airplanes and ships use 400 Hz. Small size.
