I've had several posts never delivered to the list, so
I'm posting again. I apologize if anyone gets them twice.

Jim Patchell's remark about the expensive matched
transistors and tempcos is poignant and is one of the
reasons I posted this. A linear VCO system does not
require these and still makes music. Also, I believe
I'm correct in saying that a linear system can be
converted to expo or an adapter could be built should
the owner wish to move to expo at a later time.

Tom is pretty good at low component count things that work.

Another alternative is a kit like the FatMan, or for scratch
build, there's the LittleMan.

You can read about the FatMan here:
http://www.paia.com
and here:
http://home1.gte.net/res0658s/FatMan/FatManProsAndCons.html

If the cash outlay of around $160.00(US) is too much all at once,
the LittleMan might be a better way to go since you can purchase
parts a few at a time and build it up slowly over time.

Read about the LittleMan here:
http://www.itn.liu.se/~nikro/diy/littleman/

I hope this helps you.
