I use a little jig I made from a couple bits of 16 gauge aluminium sheet -
the bottom sheet has a DIP8 hole pattern drilled in it while the top sheet
has a hole to take the IC body, held together with a couple of M3 nuts,
bolts and spacers along the centre line. Sandwich the device between the 2
sheets - make sure you get pin 1 [indicated by the little tittie on the base
of the can, I think Tony already mentioned this] positioned right - and
gently tighten up the bolts. Hey-presto a nicely formed, sensible leadout to
fit the standard DIP pad pattern. So much easier to solder.
