Hello Rene,
How about "Log-Exp" approach?
exp(2*log(abs(x))) = x^2
Input -> [Full wave rectifier] -> [log] -> [*2] -> [exp] -> Output
RMS detector by THAT may be inspiring.

If you can used matched diodes, what you need after rectifier are
one opamp and two diodes for logarithm function and multiplication,
and one opamp and one diode for exponential function.
