I second that choice of AofE. One helluva book, and will last a lifetime.
Don't be put off by the size of it, it starts from the basic components,
what they do, why they do it, how they are not as perfect as the
"introductory" books like to pretend they are. This is very much a
practical, application-oriented book.
After that, you'll find most introductory books either laughably basic, or
misleading. AofE rocks!!
I also strongly suggest a book on analogue filter design, and some maths.
While you don't need to be able to do partial differential equations,
Laplace maths comes in handy for noodling with filters and understanding
why op-amp circuits do what they do, and how to compensate them.
If its troubleshooting that you're interested in, try Robert Pease
"Troubleshooting Analog Circuits".
Hope this helps,
Neil
