Yo,
For those of you who are not familiar with RF, this is
the kind of device used in the RF realm. There it is
called a double-balanced mixer. The diodes serve as
switches, the transformers match impedance and
generate the opposite phases needed. The port going
directly to the diodes needs a signal big enough to
turn on the diodes.
There is reams of info on how these puppies work, and
I don't think a bit of it is going to help. Its meant
for RF design, and this is audio. I'd be willing to
bet it sounds interesting. Coe to think of it, I have
some mixers make by Mini-Circuits in my stash. Perhaps
I'll take a listen...
