I once asked about the length of a 'lifetime garantee' for my Karrimor
rucksack that had just broken after five years. The salesman at the gear
shop didn't know, but we rang the factory and was told 'its the lifetime
of the product'... which is measured in hours of use not hours from
purchase. MTBF for a rucksack? Who knows, but they offered to fix it
anyhow.

So send it back to the makers and you may well get a new one.
