Actually the real reason for this was that PNPs are all left hand thread
and at the time, the Japanese only made left hand thread stuff so they
didn't have much choice. Now of course they can do both. The real major
difference between PNP and NPN is that NPNs make louder amps. Which is why
it took years to perfect the class B stage.

In the 60s, my sister went to buy herself a little radio to take to the
beach. She asked the salesman if it was a push pull output. (We were all
technocrats in the Goodfortune family) The salesman held up the ear phone
and said. "No the sound only comes out of one end."

Which Ironically sounds like your average Sick Dick sales employee. I'm
surprised they've got any transistors at all these days. BC 54x/55x are
roughly about the same as 2n390x transistors and in small signal and low
level switching, are just fine. If you were in Japan you'd probably use a
2Sx945. They're all general purpose, small signal transistors. suitable for
around 100mA or so.

On the other hand, do you have JayCar or Altronics across the Tasman there?
ALmost anywhere would be better than Duck Smuts. Even if you have to mail
order it.

Be absolutely Icebox.
