This is basically the same construction. As I recall the whole device is
one unit, not a separate pot/cap and planetary drive as I've seen used in
other devices (RF tuners, for instance). So you have to replace the whole
thing if the pot goes bad or the drive gets flaky. I don't know if it would
be possible to substitute a separate pot/drive without making some serious
modifications to the whole SEM.

These sound like they would work. The original is 50k but a quick change of
the series resistor and you'd be all set--if the whole thing fits, the
knobs are the right sizes, etc. Minor point.
