Hi,
Can you use the Roland (or Yamaha) RS-232 MIDI drivers with the FTDI VCP drivers? If the drivers recognize the virtual COM port which the FTDI drivers (VCP) make it would be very easy to make any MIDI device (keyboard scanner, MIDI-to-CV converter etc.) with the FTDI chips. Also the Roland drivers are also multiclient so you can have your sound editor (SoundDiver etc.) open at the same time with the sequencer.
Not so good thing is that you can't order the chips or kits direct from Ftdichips with credit card...
