I know this is a stupid question, but did you do a lot of knob twiddling
yet? You will get little to no output if the front panel controls are set
wrong. Check these things first:
Is the cutoff all the way up?
Resonance all the way down?
Short Attack, Medium decay, Medium sustain, Medium release?
You mention you're a newbie, so I just wanted to make sure that your
controls aren't set somewhere that you'll get no output.
Next... hook a voltmeter to gate out. Press a key... gate should jump from
0V to 5V (or 10V... don't know the Fatman really well)
Hook a voltmeter to CV out. Press keys.... low keys will produce a low
voltage, and the higher you go on the
keyboard, the higher the voltage will be.
These are the first things I'd check after verifying the powersupply voltages
