[sdiy] MIDI isn't musical : Flame bait?

>Sometimes the most blatent giveaway is in the quirks of the particular
CV keyboard, like the duophonic feature of the ARP Odyssey. That's easy
to spot.

So now midi has to replicate the failings of every single ancient
instrument? I don't think so. This onus must be on the sound module
itself. It is probably possible to get a module to do this... but the
question for me would be 'why' of course.

I have an early Octave Cat infor service right now. There is no way I
would want to replicate its keyboard 'action', ie. finger-CV/gate
conversion. :-) Frankly, the thing stinks to me. Delays, noticeable
glide time.

I wonder what the latency is with a mellotron? Do I really want to
re-create that with serial data stream from the keyboard to the module.
If this is to be done, then the sound module must do it.

I have done many musical pieces with midi and will continue to do so.
What takes any expression out of my midi data streams is not midi, but
my over zealous use of the 'quantise' and 'data thin' buttons in the
sequencer.

It would be nice to hear what Emerson et al could do with aftertouch and
velocity. And having seen Rick Wakeman using several peices of midi
gear... yep, still sounds like Rick to me. Of course, the flowing cape
gave it a way a bit...

** actually, that's a lie, he didn't wear a cape. I just said it for
comic effect. :-)
