just a comment from me.

While I was going to University (arizona state), I took a course in
MIDI.  Yeah, it was a joke... The prof had a synth that used a ps/2
(mini-din) connection, so it wasn't even really midi but anyhow...//

The prof, was the keyboardist for (one of?) Stevie Nicks tours.  He
told us a story about when they played on Letterman.  He was playing a
grand piano that had a midi-keyboard controller built in, and was
triggering (playing) a grand piano sound out of a module.  The piano's
sound itself (hammer on strings) was never used for the show, because
it was a bitch to mic.  Much easier to plug the midi-module into the
mixer. 

anyhow, I thought it was an amusing story..
