[sdiy] MIDI isn't musical : Flame bait?

Hey! I have an analogue tape recording system and I'm not exchanging it
for anything!

Analogue tape, analogue synths! I hate digital. Has nothing to do with
musicality and so forth. I hate digital 'cos it's not ergonomic.

Some of you may not agree, i.e. editing MIDI tacks as opposed to
rerecording etc.

On the other hand, my friend who lives downstairs bought a digital
recorder a year ago. He asked me to record a bass line for one of his
songs, so I went down to use the thing.

I hated it.

Menus, menus, cursors, menus, scrolling, menus, configure, check
compatibilty, configure, find the right cord, configure, menu, scroll...

Digital equipment is just not easily manipulated (and in some ways,
impossible). Rather than all that menu flipping and cursor scrolling,
I'd rather take the time to plug a few patch cords, and turn a few
knobs. You can "feel" the equipment better. Rerecording a track? No
problem, that's what punch-ins are for.

Cool effects that the software developers never thought to write
algorithms for are handily given by mother nature herself.

Long live analogue everything!

But, seriously, MIDI is a blessing. It is a wonderful tool for storing
ideas when writing. What about Sysex? Where would we be without Sysex?
Oh
sure, let's go back to analog tape drives. Duh!!
