[sdiy] MIDI isn't musical : Flame bait?

MIDI definitely isn't musical. It makes roughly the same sounds that your
modem does when you're signing on. I wouldn't want to listen to that all day
either.

Needless to say, I think that it is entirely pointless to debate the virtues
of one hammer over another, when you are trying to describe the house you've
built. Can you make a viable argument that the method is more important than
the net result? That aside, I think the statement in and of itself is
entirely ridiculous. MIDI is definitely not musical. Musicians, however...
That's why we have tape decks. Either you need to quantitize, or you don't.
MIDI isn't a recording medium. All it is is a description of an event, not
the event itself. If you can describe the event in a different matter, and
still make the event happen at a time and in a manner which is sonically
pleasing, what does it matter how it occured?
