Don't stop with DIY during school. Any EE with practical experience is more
valuable than one with just theory.

Being able to tech your own prototypes will save a lot of time and
aggravation. Also, always be respectful to technicians and assemblers, they
are also skilled workers. Some technicians are better engineers than the
EEs. And a good surface mount assembler CAN circumcise a gnat.
