[sdiy] Rotary Encoder Question

There's this mechanical encoder, which according to description
makes pulses on one pin when turned clockwise, and pulses
on other pin when turn counterclock. By pulses I mean shorting
and releasing contacts. And there are plenty of standard
"quadrature modulation" encoders.

All those I described cost about 4-6 EUR, can be mounted like
potentiometers, have 20-24 pulses per rotation, are made
by ALPS and are available in www.elfa.se
Haven't tried them though.

Many years searching for device able to produce more than
40 pulses per rotation and not costing a fortune made me
give up on using them at all.

""Dear All,
""
""	Anyone know of a (cheap) rotary pulse output
""incremental encoder ?
""
""	It's the type that has two outputs - one produces
""pulses (or opens/closes
""	switch contacts) when rotated in one direction and the
""other output does
""	the same when the encoder is rotated in the opposite direction.
""
""	Most incremental encoders I've found on the web seem
""only to produce
""	quadrature pulses which are not suitable for a MIDI
""controller I have
""	in mind.
""
""	Cheers
""
