Actually, it does square and triangle at the same time.

Tri is what you get from the pot output.  Square is available
at pin 4 of the IC.  One 4069 would make a dual if you wanted
to, since there are 6 gates.

No, it's just a simple thing, it's actually a CMOS adaptation of 
the classic integrator and schmitt trigger LFO.
