They are OK. You might want to mention that you are evaluating them for a
future
project (and be prepared to mention a detail or two... in case a salesman
calls)
They will sometimes have a local rep call to see if you "got the samples"
or "tried them" or want to "buy them".
The service is intended for industry professionals (and not hobbyists)
but they usually are not too tough on an experimenter either. They
realize that today's hacker could be tomorrow's customer...
And most people who would WANT samples in the first place are usually
good sales leads...
DON'T say "hey I'm just a hobbyist" say "I am a Consultant" or "I am a
design engineer" or better yet.. "I'm the CEO"
I remember that RS Electronics refused to do business with me when I was
15
years old... and I remember that the (just starting out) Digi-Key would
sell me those
parts... and I just placed another order today (30 years later!).
Hmmm... RS has
had some reverses of fortune over the years... hmmmm.... those facts
connected ???
Go for the samples. Worst that happens is you don't get them !
