A speaker is way too low in impedance to drive direct from almost
any circuit.

I'd use a small amplifier (like a boombox with a line input... I use a
SMALL guitar
amp...) and make a 10:1 attenuator by putting a 100K resistor in series
with the
"hot" test clip... and a 10K to ground on the other end. This will
protect the boombox from devastating voltage levels. I suggest boombox
because it can be
battery powered and not introduce (much) noise back into the circuit.

I'm only telling you this because I presume you don't have an
OSCILLOSCOPE
which you should obtain / use.  Chances are very good that if the square
is working...
so is the triangle... but you can't hear it because the frequency is too
low. The high
harmonics of the square are probably audible. Triangle does not have
much harmonic content at all...

You might also use an OLD (unwanted and unloved) high impedance dynamic
microphone as a speaker. I used to use this old Panasonic Mic from the
mid-60's
(when I didn't have a scope...)
