DOH!  too fast on the reply key...

But it _does_ work.  If you want to "hear" it, replace
the timing cap with a much smaller one.  Also, I would
not recommend going direct to a speaker.  I built a
cheesey little bench amp for stuff like that, signal
tracing etc.
